James Bond Beach is in Oracabessa, just past Ocho Rios on the north coast. It’s named after Ian Fleming’s estate nearby – he wrote the Bond novels right here. But this isn’t about tourist nostalgia. It’s just a good beach that hasn’t been swallowed by resorts yet.
The water’s calm. The sand is actual sand, not imported for show. There are chairs if you want them, a bar that doesn’t gouge you, and sometimes live music on weekends. But it’s not loud. It’s not performing for you. It just is.
Locals bring their families here. That should tell you something.
Entry is about $5 USD. There are bathrooms, showers, changing rooms – nothing fancy, but they work. Food and drinks at the bar won’t cost you resort prices.
Come on a weekday if you want space. Come late afternoon when the light hits different and the day crowd has cleared out. Bring cash for entry and whatever else you need.
This is the kind of beach that reminds you why you’re here.
Best time: Weekday mornings or late afternoons
Bring: Cash, maybe water shoes, towel, sunscreen
For: People who want a real beach, not a show
