Your information, respected

The short version

Jamaica Outback is a travel directory operated from Connecticut, United States, featuring family-run businesses in Jamaica. We collect only what you give us: an email address if you join our list, and business details if you ask to be listed. We use no advertising networks, no tracking cookies and no analytics scripts. We never sell or rent your information to anyone.

What we collect

If you are a traveler

• Newsletter sign-up. Your email address, so we can send you what you asked for: first access to our newest vendors, Journal stories and itineraries.
• Email you send us. If you write to connect@jamaicaoutback.com, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to help you.
• Purchases. If you buy an itinerary or custom trip planning, we receive the details needed to deliver it, such as your name, email and travel dates you share with us.

If you own a business and ask to be listed

• Your sign-up. Business name, category, parish and town, WhatsApp number, phone, email, website, a description, your story, photos you upload, and the map pin you place. This is the material your public listing page is made from.
• Your onboarding page. If we send you a personal link, we also receive the story you type or the voice note you record, the photos you add, any corrections, and the time you gave consent. Voice notes are raw material for your write-up and are not published as audio.

From everyone, quietly and briefly

• Basic technical logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP addresses) for security. We also check IP addresses on our forms to block spam and abuse. We do not use them to profile you.

What we never do

• We never sell, rent or trade your information.
• We run no ads and no third-party trackers.
• We send email only to people who asked for it, and you can leave the list any time by replying with the word unsubscribe.

Where your information lives

Our directory data and uploaded photos are stored with Supabase, and the site is hosted by Vercel, both based in the United States. Email to connect@jamaicaoutback.com is handled through our email providers. Each of these companies acts as a service provider for us and does not use your information for its own purposes.

The map, and links that leave the site

Our island map loads its tiles from OpenStreetMap, a nonprofit map service, so when you open a map page your browser requests those images from OpenStreetMap directly. Buttons and links that take you elsewhere, such as WhatsApp, our Printful merch store, Amazon for the cookbook, or our social pages, are governed by those services’ own privacy policies once you arrive.

Listing pages are public on purpose

If you list your business with us, the material you approve for your page, such as your business name, town, story, photos and WhatsApp contact, is published for travelers to see. That is the point of the directory. If you ever want something changed or taken down, one email or WhatsApp message to Tamie is enough.

How long we keep things

Newsletter addresses stay on the list until you leave it. Listing material stays as long as your listing is live, or until you ask us to remove it. Material from sign-ups we decline is not published and can be deleted on request.

Your choices and your rights

You can ask us at any time to show you, correct, or delete the information we hold about you. Email connect@jamaicaoutback.com and we will handle it personally, usually within a few days. If you are a Connecticut resident, or you are visiting from a place with its own privacy law such as the European Union or the United Kingdom, these same rights apply to you here, and we honor them for everyone regardless of where you live.

Children

The site is meant for adults planning travel and for business owners. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and if we learn we have, we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not quietly weaken it.
