The house rules, in plain words
What Jamaica Outback is, what it is not, and what we ask of each other. Last updated July 11, 2026.
The short version
Jamaica Outback is a directory. We introduce you to family-run Jamaican businesses and you deal with them directly. We take no commission, we are not part of your booking, and we cannot stand behind another business’s service the way its own family does. Travel with good sense, book with your eyes open, and message us if anything on the site is wrong.
Who we are
Jamaica Outback (jamaicaoutback.com) is operated from the state of Connecticut, United States, and features independent businesses located in Jamaica. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, the kindest thing is simply not to use the site.
A directory, not a travel agency
Every guesthouse, cookshop, guide and driver listed here is an independent business owned and run by its own family. When you message one on WhatsApp, book a room, hire a driver or order a meal, your agreement is with that business, not with us. We are not a party to the transaction, we do not process the payment, we take no cut, and we are not the agent of either side. Prices, availability, menus and schedules belong to the businesses and can change without notice, so confirm the details that matter with them directly.
Hand-approved is not a guarantee
Tamie personally reviews every listing before it goes live, and we only list places we would send a friend. That is a promise about care, not a warranty. We cannot inspect every room, taste every pot or ride every road, and we are not responsible for the acts, omissions or services of any listed business.
Travel responsibly
Travel involves ordinary risk anywhere in the world. Use the same judgment in Jamaica you would use at home: confirm arrangements, carry travel insurance, and check your government’s current travel guidance. Decisions about where you go and who you book with are yours.
Itineraries and trip planning
Our paid itineraries and custom trip planning are suggestions built with real local knowledge, sold for your personal use. They are not guarantees: businesses close, weather turns, roads change. Check ahead for anything essential to your trip. Itinerary downloads are for you and your travel party, not for resale or republishing. If a purchase goes wrong, or an itinerary lets you down, email connect@jamaicaoutback.com and we will make it right like the small business we are.
For the businesses we list
Listing on Jamaica Outback carries no fees and no commission, ever. In return we ask for honesty and permission:
- The information, stories and photos you give us must be true, must be yours to share, and must not infringe anyone else’s rights.
- You give us permission to publish that material on your listing page and to use it to present the directory, including light editing of text for style. You keep ownership of your photos and your story.
- We may decline, edit or remove a listing at our discretion, especially if information proves inaccurate or travelers report serious problems. You may ask us to update or remove your listing at any time, and we will.
Our content
The write-ups, Journal stories, itineraries and design of this site belong to Jamaica Outback. Photographs belong to the businesses pictured or carry Creative Commons licenses credited in the footer. You are welcome to share links anywhere; please do not copy pages wholesale, scrape the directory, or republish our itineraries. Journalists: the press kit has material you may reuse word for word.
The merch store
Merchandise is sold through our store on Printful, a separate service with its own checkout, shipping and return policies. Purchases there are governed by Printful’s terms.
Being decent on the site
Do not use our forms to spam, impersonate someone, submit a business that is not yours to submit, or upload anything unlawful. We remove abuse and may block repeat offenders.
The legal limits
The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jamaica Outback and its owner are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for the services of any listed business. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights the law does not allow us to limit.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut.
Changes
If these terms change, we will update this page and the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
